When did your baby start sleeping through the night?

This post is part of our series “Facebook Q&A about Parenting” where we went to our friends and family on Facebook to get advice on parenting.

The Question: When did your baby start sleeping through the night?

The Answers:

Elaina: We started sleep training our son at 6 months (when we started solid foods, cereal) but he wasn’t sleeping through the night until 7 months.

Rosemary: Our girls started sleeping through the night around 2 months. They started with 5-6 hour stretches and then our pediatrician encouraged us to teach them to go toward 9-10 hours. You can do it! You’ll feel so good once you start getting more sleep.

Joanne: At 3 months, he slept about 5 hrs. At 4 months, he slept 8 hrs… Now he’s 9-10 hrs straight… And after he wakes and feeds he goes back to sleep for another 2-3 hrs… The night she sleeps thru, you will wake up panicked wondering what’s wrong.

Paul: It hasn’t happened yet. It’s been 6 months and my baby still wakes up 1-2 times every night.

Chloe: With my first kid, he started sleeping through the night at 2 months. With my second, he’s 8 months old but still has to wake up twice every night to feed.

Our Experience:
For us, Alena started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks old. We followed the Becoming Baby Wise book to sleep train her. This lasted for a month. Then there were 2 weeks when she woke up in the middle of the night hungry. But after that, she went back to sleeping through the night.

Here’s how we sleep trained our baby.
