Full-term!

This past Friday, Baby Chan reached the milestone of 37 weeks, which is considered full-term.

We celebrated by hosting a baby shower for our relatives and a small group of friends.  Our little apartment was jam packed with people, conversations, food and gifts!  I wished though that we could have had the baby shower a few weeks, or even a month earlier.  I’ve found that in the last week or two, I’ve slowly become more and more withdrawn and less and less social (maybe I’m saving up energy for the labour and birth?).  It’s like I’m in my own little world and it takes extra effort to engage in actual conversation with others. (Even Tim has noticed this in my interactions with him.)

At the baby shower, some of Tim’s cousins started a baby pool with bets on baby’s birth date and weight.  The earliest guess was Nov 20.  The latest one was Dec 7.  The weight guesses ranged from 5 lbs 9 oz to 8 lbs 9 oz.  (Somehow, I don’t think baby will be 8 pounds!)  We also set up our Christmas tree.  Seeing it lit makes me happy.

At full term, I could technically go into labour at any moment.  But at my check up yesterday, my doctor did a pelvic exam and said that baby is just starting to move downward into birth position.  So I took it to mean it won’t be this week (which Tim and I are both fine with, as we still have some things we hope to finish up before baby arrives!).

My hips continue to ache and when I asked my doctor if it would just get worse from here, she nodded her head.  Her advice?  Sleep on my side, put a pillow between my legs when I sleep, take warm showers…  but ultimately, the only solution is to go into labour and have the baby.  Excellent.

I did discover that sleeping on our recliner (with tons of pillows) helps ease the hip discomfort.  Especially after sleeping on the bed for most of the night.  So the last couple days, I’ve either napped or had my early morning sleep on the couch.  Sitting on my exercise ball also helps.

In other strangeness, I’ve been dreaming a lot about sweets lately.  Ice cream cakes, desserts, chocolate…  And I’ve been craving baked goods like never before in my life.  The other day, I made some banana chocolate chip muffins.  Prior to this, I pretty much never baked.  Maybe it’s because baby’s putting on fat at this point?

Anyway, I’ll end today’s post with these two gems we found in our fortune cookies at dinner the night of our baby shower.  The first one was given to Tim and the second one was one that I got.  Pretty appropriate, wouldn’t you say?
