2012 Year in Review

As 2012 comes to an end, I’m prompted to reflect on the past year. What happened? What moments defined the year? What have I learned and how have I changed? As I reflect, I gain a sense of gratitude for how blessed my family and I are. But reflection also helps me to look ahead to the next year and decide how I can live deliberately and intentionally to make the most of my life. Here are a few things I’ve been reflecting on.

Top 10 Blog Posts in Winter 2012

Olive and I are continually amazed at the people who are reading our blog. Last week, a UBC business student that I mentor told me that his classmate showed him our blog. I’ve heard from friends that say they love reading about Olive’s experiences as a new mother. A small group member told us her colleagues at work follow our blog. And one of my colleague’s friends (whom we have never met) messaged this to me on Twitter: “@timtchan you and Olive’s blog is really inspirational and encouraging! Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts!”

10 Reasons Jeremy Lin’s Story is so Appealing

Somehow Jeremy Lin has captured the imagination of the sports world these two weeks. I see stories about him everywhere. My friends are posting about him on Facebook. The people I follow (like @jack_welch) are tweeting about him on Twitter. He is on the front page of ESPN, TSN, and newspapers (especially Asian ones). My friends went to watch him play live in Toronto on Tuesday. My dad forwarded me an email about him. A reporter from the Vancouver Sun called me yesterday to ask me why I had Linsanity (it was very timely, because I had just finished writing this article when he called). I even dreamed about him the other night.
