FEEDING FRENZY

i love summer. not just for the hot weather, bright sunshine and long days. i love summer because that’s when i get to read and read and read and read and… :>

since coming back, i’ve started reading Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secretsby Dr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor (Hudson Taylor’s son and daughter-in-law). i’m about a quarter of the way through it but it’s already been quite inspirational. i’ll just leave you with a couple of quotes i found extra helpful.

Hudson Taylor did not start out to impact “millions.” He started out to love God, to honor Him, and to share His love with individal sinners who needed so desperately to know Him. Jesus called Taylor (and us) to be “faithful,” not “successful.” And God added to the increase.

BLIND AND DEAF

i picked up Helen Keller’s autobiography while i was at the browsing the shelves at the library today (yesh, i’m a nerd…). i’ve heard so much about her life and her courage in the face of losing her sight and hearing at the age of one, but i’d never actually read her story. so anyway, it hasn’t inspired countless numbers of people for no reason.

i’ve always had a fascination for people who function without their senses of sight and hearing and reading her story backed my belief that people without those senses are so much more observant than the rest of us who have all our senses. throughout the book, she keeps remarking about the beauty that is in the world and in nature. her wonder at the world is so rare and inspiring.

anywho, i’ll keep this posting short and leave you with a passage i thought was quite insightful…

…”in college, there is no time to commune with one’s thoughts. One goes to college to learn, it seems, not to think. When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures – solitude, books and imagination – outside with the whispering pines.”

ROMANS 8:32

the following is an excerpt from Future Graceby John Piper. may it fill your heart with hope, as it has filled mine. :>

God desired two things: not to see his Son made a mockery by sinners; and not to see his people denied infinite future grace. Surely it is more likely that he will spare his Son than that he will spare us. But no. He did not spare his Son. And therefore it is impossible that he should spare us the promise for which the Son died – he will freely with him give us all things.
…
The great promise of future grace, guaranteed in the logic of Romans 8:32, is that nothing will ever enter your experience as God’s child that, by God’s sovereign grace, will not turn out to be a benefit to you. This is what it means for God to be God, and for God to be for you, and for God to freely give you all things with Christ.
