Today we are celebrating our 4th Wedding Anniversary. Compared to how we celebrated our past anniversaries, this year’s festivities are lame. (My wife, who is ever the optimist prefers to call it “low-key”.) It’s our first anniversary post-baby, and it was not very spectacular.
We knew this day was coming up, but we just didn’t have the time and energy to plan anything big.
I had no gift for my wife. All I could do was take my baby with me this morning to Superstore and buy some sunflowers for my wife. This was done in response to a hint my wife gave me earlier this week, when she had seen those same flowers at the grocery store and casually mentioned them to me. Sunflowers are Olive’s favourite flowers, and also the flowers she had at our wedding.
Olive did better – she managed to scrounge up a gift (which she bought when grocery shopping) and wrap it up in some newspaper. This morning she told me there was another part to the gift, but she had forgotten where she’d hidden it and could not find it anymore.
We were lucky that my brother-in-law could babysit for a few hours this afternoon, so we could to go a restaurant for lunch. En route to the restaurant we called and made some reservations… luckily there was a table available.
On the way home from lunch, we stopped by the mall to shop for Olive’s anniversary gift – a shirt.
When we got home, we found out that our baby had cried half the time we were gone (she does that to everyone we leave her with), and we wondered if it was worth all the effort.
It was the lamest anniversary we’ve ever had.
But. Compared to what we’ve been used to since having the baby, it was DELIGHTFUL.
It was nice to be able to enjoy lunch without worrying about a fussy baby (the last time this happened was 4 months ago). We even got special seats by the fireplace. Olive got to shop for new clothes and she managed to find something she liked for a good price (the last time this happened was half a year ago). And I had the pleasure of having my wife sit in the front seat of the car with me (which hardly ever happens).
Happy anniversary Olive! Sorry it was so lame. Hopefully this will be the lamest one ever. I still had a blast and I love you.
