My parents-in-law are in town from Toronto, visiting us for 10 days. It’s great to have them with us because we only see them once or twice a year (not counting Skype video calls). Do you know the best thing about them being here?
Happy First Father’s Day, Tim!
Dear Tim,
Last year for Father’s Day, I gave you a book called, “So You’re Gonna Be A Dad.” It was an attempt to help you prepare for one of the biggest life changes you’d ever face.
We brought the Wrong Baby on Vacation
Last week Olive and I went on our first vacation since our baby was born. It was a short 4 day trip to nearby Seattle. It was a momentous occasion because it would be our 6-month old daughter’s first road trip and the first time she used her baby passport (now you would expect a baby passport to be smaller than an adult passport, because all things baby are smaller and cuter and have pictures of baby giraffes and elephants on them – but the person in charge at the passport office must have missed the memo).
Our attempt to get our Baby to Love Veggies
We don’t want to be the parents that have to repeatedly force/bribe/coerce their kids to eat their vegetables. So we are trying an experiment on Alena to see if we can get her to love vegetables. Disclaimer: These methods were not learned from any “expert” or read in any published books, and definitely not scientifically proven. We are NOT recommending that anyone try this at home on their babies or on anyone else’s babies.
How Buying a Zoo can bring a Family Together
Last weekend, after putting our baby to sleep, my wife and I had a chance to watch the movie “We bought a Zoo“. It was a fun and heartwarming movie about family and adventure. There were times in the movie that we laughed. There were times my wife cried (but not me, because I am a coldhearted strong man). It was one of those movies that after you finish watching, your heart feels fuller and you are happy that you are alive.
Laughter brings Joy: Happy Mother’s Day
It is Olive’s first mother’s day today. As a new dad, celebrating mother’s day has more meaning. What I’ve realized watching Olive become a mother, is the depth of love a mother has for their children. When I see my wife’s meticulous concern for my baby daughter, I can’t help but imagine my mother’s care for me as a baby.
How We Trained our Baby to Sleep through the Night
This post is part of our series “Facebook Q&A about Parenting” where we went to our friends and family on Facebook to get advice on parenting.
The Question: How did you train your baby to sleep through the night?
